Our History

Facing various problems such as aggression and institutional violence by Public Safety and the media, in addition with the continued repression by authorities on female sex workers, we got together and created Organización Mujer Libertad A.C. in 1997. In July 1998, we created the Mexican Network of Sex Work together with 18 states nationwide. When we were more strengthened, we began to demand access to the female condom and take the necessary actions in order to introduce it in Mexico. We also initiated advocacy actions and denunciations by the vexations of human rights, which increased exponentially for being electoral times. Through our advocacy work since 2004, we work for a Law on Sex Work in the State of Querétaro, we succeeded in replacing the obligatory prophylaxis carnet for a Federal Healthcare Carnet —achieving non-obligatory HIV testing— and we also managed that was accepted the Law on Gender Violence. Strengthened as female sex workers, we separated from the Mexican Network of Sex Work and we created the Interstate Network of Sex Work that united the states of Querétaro, Guanajuato, Michoacán and San Luis Potosí. We work every day denouncing abuses and violations of our human rights, in order to respect the law and to avoid mandatory HIV testing to sex workers as a control method to let them work.
